5G-Xcast project was heavily involved in the 2019 IEEE Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting (BMSB’19) conference held by the Korea Institute of Broadcast and Media Engineers (KIBME) and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in Jeju, South Korea. The conference, which took place from the 5th to the 7th of June, gathered hundreds of experts on different areas related to broadcasting systems.

BMSB 2019 was the ideal scenario to present the unprecedented 5G-Xcast outcome, which stands out as a global solution for the delivery of multicast and broadcast services using a single technology, 5G.
The project organised a special session on 5G-Xcast where different partners presented some of the main outcomes through one keynote and up to five different conference papers:

Professor David Gomez-Barquero, 5G-Xcast Project Manager, gave a keynote on “5G-Xcast – Enabling Point-to-Multipoint Communication Capabilities in 5G New Radio and the 5G Core” during the Convergence of Broadcast and Broadband session. Additionally, he presented the conference paper on “Enabling SFN Transmissions in 5G Cloud-RAN Deployments” with the joint authorship of Universitat Politecnica de Valencia (UPV) and Nokia Finland.

Dr. Eduardo Garro (UPV) presented the conference paper on “5G Mixed Mode: An Innovative Point-to-Multipoint Solution for New Radio”, where Samsung Electronics R&D UK collaborates.

Jose Luis Carcel (Samsung Electronics R&D UK) introduced the paper on “IMT-2020 Key Performance Indicators: Evaluation and Extension Towards 5G New Radio Point-to-Multipoint” in collaboration with UPV.

Dr. Belkacem Mouhouche (Samsung Electronics R&D UK) presented the paper on “Performance Evaluation of New Radio PDCCH for Point-to-Multipoint scenarios” produced by the University of Surrey.

Juhani Hallio (Turku University of Applied Sciences) presented the paper on ‘Rapidly Deployable Network System for Critical Communications in Remote Locations’ coauthorised by Fairspectrum, Aalto University and the Finnish Defence Research Agency.

The full version of all the conference papers will be made available soon in our ResearchGate profile as well as in the EU open access repository OpenAire.
